Food Stamp Program

Can I get Food Stamps?

Welcome to the Family Nutrition Programs Food Stamp Calculator. Answer the questions that follow to find out if you can get food stamps. Remember...The Food Stamp Program has many rules. This calculator covers most of the rules regarding income, but not other rules related to household circumstances.

  • In some situations, even if the calculator says you are eligible, when all of the rules are considered, you may not be eligible.

  • In some situations, even if you are eligible, it may be for a different amount than the calculator tells you.

  • In some situations, your resources such as cash on hand, bank accounts, or vehicles may also be used to determine if you are eligible for food stamps.

Only your local Department of Social Services (DSS) can make the final decision about your benefits.

BEFORE YOU START, YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW:

  • Your household's total income from jobs and other sources.
  • Your household's housing expenses such as mortgage or rent and utilities.
  • Child care expenses.
  • Child support payments made to someone outside of your household.
  • If someone in your household is disabled or over 60, any out of pocket medical expenses they pay.

If you are in a financial emergency you may be able to get food stamps right away. Click here if you need food stamps right away.

This calculator has four steps. You will answer questions about:

  1. The people who purchase and prepare meals with you. This is your "household".
  2. Your household's income.
  3. Your household's expenses.
  4. The final step will tell you an estimated amount you may receive in food stamp benefits each month, how to apply for them, and how to print the food stamp application from this web site.

This calculator is COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL because you will not give us your name, address, or any information that tells us who you are.

It will take about 10 minutes to use this calculator.
